2022年10月16日，安华数学部举办了首期安华数学系列讲座。本次讲座邀请AlertWatch的共同创办人、安华数学老师Jan Gombert先生，做了题为“Making a difference: in your life and those ofothers”的精彩演讲。讲座由安华中文学校数学教研组组长廖劲晖主持，陈玲芝校长，曹艳霞校长及其他30多位学生和家长现场出席演讲并参与了讨论，同时有近20人通过Zoom线上参加了此次活动。
On October 16, 2022, Ann-Hua Chinese School hosted its first Mathematics Seminar of the year. Mr. Jan Gombert, the co-founder of AlertWatch and an Ann-Hua math teacher, was invited to give a wonderful speech: “Making a difference: in your life and those of others”. The presentation was hosted by Dr. Jinhui Liao, the Chair of Mathematics Department at Ann-Hua Chinese School. Lingzhi Chen and Yanxia Cao, the two principals of Ann-Hua Chinese School, and more than 30 students and parents participated on site. At the same time, around 20 people participated online via Zoom.
Jan Gombert先生本科毕业于Princeton University 数学系，并在University of Virginia 获得数学硕士，在University of Michigan获得教育学硕士。他创立了SkillsBank，Softwriters和AlertWatch三个科技公司，服务了数以百万计的用户。Jan Gombert先生热心教育，他曾在7所不同学校担任教师。他热爱生活，工作之余喜欢写作和演奏乐器。
Mr. Jan Gombert received his bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Princeton University, a master’s degree in mathematics from the University of Virginia, and a master’s degree in education from the University of Michigan. He then founded three technology companies including SkillsBank, Softwriters and AlertWatch, which has served and benefited millions of users. Mr. Jan Gombert is passionate about education and he has worked as a teacher in 7 different schools. He loves life, enjoying playing instruments and writing in his spare time.
在讲座中，Jan Gombert先生分享了他在多彩生活中获得的人生智慧。他鼓励青年人要目光 远大，要多思考怎样去影响和帮助更多的人。Jan在演讲中谈到要掌握解决问题的方法，而且在有人需要你帮助的时候有信心给与他人积极正面的回答， “好， 我可以”。 他还告诉我们在具体工作中，不要畏惧困难，遇到问题要积极学习和思考，充分调动我们的聪明才智，为人们创造更加美好的生活。Jan Gombert先生生动的演讲赢得了在场师生热烈的掌声，随后Jan与在场的学生、家长、老师们进行了热烈的讨论。
Throughout his presentation, Mr. Jan Gombert shared his wisdom of life that he gained from his colorful experience. He encouraged young people to look far ahead and think more about how to influence and help others. In his speech, Jan talked about “Learn how to solve problems, and always say yes if somebody asks you if you can do something!”. He told us that you should not be afraid of difficulties, and should actively learn and think when you are encountering
problems. You should fully mobilize your ingenuity to create a better life for other people. His presentation won the hearts of all teachers and students attending in person and online.
最后，陈玲芝校长向Jan Gombert先生颁发了荣誉纪念奖，代表安华中文学校感激、表彰他将他在安华所得的教师补贴全部捐给安华中文学校，作为特殊项目奖学金，来鼓励学生们发奋图强。本次活动在大家的热烈掌声中圆满落下帷幕 Finally, Dr. Lingzhi Chen, Principal of Ann-Hua Chinese School in charge of Academics honored Mr. Jan Gombert with an award to recognize his excellent teaching work and his donation of his compensation to Ann-Hua Chinese School that funds a special scholarship program to encourage students to strive for great work and success in math. This event successfully ended with a big round of applause.
该讲座后，安华中文学校初高中助教/辅导员/助理教练管理委员会将“让世界因为我们而不同” “Making a differnce and touching lives around you” 作为今年安华初高中志愿者助教/辅导员/助理教练的培训、成长计划中的一个主题，我们相信在这些新生力量的年终TA报告里会看到闪光点点！
