The Ann-Hua Chinese School Student Association hosted their first event this year: the annual Fall Fundraiser. This was our association’s first official event, and it was a remarkable success, showcasing our members’ dedication and organizational skills. The team collaborated to raise over $1,000 through a variety of initiatives, including a bake sale, leaf-raking services, and bottle collections.

The fundraiser was led by Association President Jessica Wu, Vice President Jane Hu, and team member Anna He.  Thanks to all student volunteers and their parents for their support throughout the process.  All proceeds will be donated to support Doyle-Ryder Elementary School in Flint, Michigan. Ann-Hua Chinese School Principal Lingzhi Chen and Mr. Yunhui Cheng, Ann-Hua’s Public Relations Director, delivered the donated food and gift cards in late December, just in time for the holidays.

Doyle-Ryder Elementary has been deeply affected by the lingering impact of the Flint water crisis and the devastation caused by a recent flooding incident. These events have left students, families, and staff grappling with ongoing adversity. The school was forced to close down in 2021 and continues to face the lasting effects of the devastating events. The great news from the school recently is that they have now finally moved back to the school building.  The school principal expressed great gratitude toward the support from Ann-Hua Chinese School students and families. They are inviting our students to visit their school in early March for a gathering.

The Ann-Hua Chinese School Student Association aims to utilize volunteering and leadership to train our students in making a positive impact on the community. The success of the Fall Fundraiser is a testament to the power of collaboration and youth-led initiatives. They are already planning next year’s fundraiser to be even more impactful for their nearby communities. As the year progresses, ASA looks forward to more opportunities to make a difference.
